INTRODUCTION MAPS: - Top

Mentoring Assistance for Prospective Scholars is a state funded program administered by the Office of Diversity for

Academic Affairs to give African American, Hispanic American, and Native American (AAHANA) students an

opportunity to participate in partnerships with experienced Mentors. Full-time faculty, administrators, and

professional staff volunteer to be mentors to MAPS students by taking an active role and interest in their academic,

social and professional development. As MAPS staff, we believe every student admitted to Indiana State University

should have the opportunity to matriculate successfully and achieve graduation. A core endeavor of MAPS is

to make this possible by assisting AAHANA students' development through support services we offer to them

and their mentors.

OBJECTIVES OF MAPS: - Top

• To provide enhancement to the educational and professional endeavors of African, Hispanic, and Native American (AAHANA) students enrolled at Indiana State University.

• To promote ways to foster in AAHANA students the development of skills and attitudes necessary to attain academic, career, and life goals.

• To enhance the positive rate of AAHANA student matriculation.

• To promote and support a human relations climate which allows AAHANA students to connect with Indiana State University.

• To create, facilitate, and present activities that encourage AAHANA students to participate in partnerships mutually beneficial to them and other ISU constituencies.

• To be a venue through which AAHANA students become informed of services available, potential scholarship and professional development opportunities.

OUR MISSION - Top

Mentoring Assistance for Prospective Scholars (MAPS) pledges to provide support services to African American,

Hispanic American, and Native American, (AAHANA) students at Indiana State University. It is our belief that

AAHANA students admitted to ISU should have access to any available resource that serves to enhance academic,

emotional, professional, and social success. It is inherent in the mission of MAPS to enhance the total development

of AAHANA students by offering and supporting :

• Academic Advising.
• Professional Scholars as Mentors.
• Academic Identity Workshops.
• Professional Development Workshops.
• Multicultural Experiences.
• Cultural Awareness Training.
• Student Diversity Workshops.
• On-Site Corporation Visits ¨ MAPS Workforce Preparation Project (MWPP).
• Guidance for Academic & Professional Success (GAPS).
• Critical Constructive Feedback.
• Periodic Evaluations & Assessment of Progress.
• Recognition & Reward Ceremonies.
