What if I Learned to Trust Again...

What if I learned to trust again
Can my heart really stand the strain...
I know you're nothing like he was
But can I really chance the pain.

I know you say you love me
But, then, so did he
Each time he lied and cheated
The pain went right through me.

If I keep this wall around me
And the guard stays right in place
Then I know I'll never hurt again
The pain I will not face.

What if I learned to trust again
Never again to doubt your love
I'd throw all caution to the wind
And cast wishes on the stars above.
