Welcome to Sketch's Smurfy Page. This is a link concerning those little blue guys (and girls) of the Smurf Kingdom. I might also throw in something about those dasterdly villians too.
Where did the Smurfs come from? That's a very smurfy question! A Begian artist named "Peyo" Culliford created the Smurfs for children's books and comics in 1958. Over the years, the Smurfs gradually became more and more popular. In 1978, a European gas company used the Smurfs to advertise their gas. People could get Smurf posters, T-shirts, and dolls at the gas pumps. That is when the Smurfs became the rage in Europe. An American businessman saw how the Smurfs became more and more popular and, in 1978, he brought the Smurfs were brought to the United States! Smurfs Theme Song

For those few of you who are unaware of what Smurfs are or where they came from, here you go. The Smurfs were created by Belgian cartoonist Pierre Culliford (a.k.a. Peyo) and introduced to the United States in the late seventies. The executive producer at NBC noticed how much his little daughter loved her Smurf figurine, and presto! the Smurfs were the cartoon hit of the early eighties.

Smurfs are blue with white hats and stand 3 apples high. There are approximately 100 Smurfs with the two most recognizable being Papa Smurf (he wears a red hat) and Smurfette (the only MAIN girl smurf. Yes, yes, I know there's Sassette and Nanna). They live in mushrooms in the middle of a forest, and are constantly being chased by Gargemel and his cat Azrael.

If I've forgotten anything important, or you want to add something, send a note and I'll get it to Papa Smurf for you.
