The day started out pretty well....a pretty cool lookin' place to hang out and wait for the real main event, no, not Neil Young and Crazy Horse (though they are really good too), and no, not Beck, it was those crazy bastards Primus, Les Claypool, Larry LaLonde, and Brian Mantia. All day I waited...until 6:00, finally, after skipping the band before them on the second stage because I refused to miss a minute of the show, they come out...blaring!! They come out with a scarily incredible version of John the Fisherman, similar to that of Suck On This. Next was my favorite Primus song....Groundhog's Day!!! it was great.
So the show went on, song after song of pure beauty and energy...through Over the Falls, Shake Hands With Beef, The Dutchess and the Proverbial Mindspread, My Name is Mud, Jerry Was a Race Car Driver, and more....one of the highlights of the show is when he plays the theme to Jaws in bass, then tells the crowd that everyone in his jazz band in high school wished they could do that. The real main event of the show was at the end, Tommy the Cat, a 13 minute version, featuring a drum solo by Brain, and lots and lots of jamming. This was one of the best shows I have ever gone to, and i hope to see them again, before their next album.
