"72 Zebra"
Ok, this freakin radical beast was sent in to us
by James Mace out in OK and we will spare the time to search thru his letter,
so FourWD is gonna post the entire letter Mr. Mace e-mailed us. We
love your truck James, keep up the awesome job man!!!!!
My name is SSG James Mace. Im stationed in Ft Sill OK in the US Army.
My truck is a 72’ Chevy. It has a 76’ 1ton frame. The engine
is a 396 big block bored 30 over. Engine mods include an RV cam,
Crane roller rockers, Edelbrock intake, Carter carb, and complete Accell
performance HEI ignition. Exhuast flows through Hedman headers down
dual pipes and Thrush glass packs. The engine is backed by 4-speed
rockcrusher, new 12inch Centerforce clutch and NP205 transfercase.
Custom driveshafts turn a HD Dana 60 front axle and 1ton 14 bolt in the
rear. Both have Detriot lockers. The lift consists of Superlift
10inch springs with a leaf removed on each side for a better ride in the
front. The back has a combination of soft ride springs, 2inch block
and traction lift. The suspension actually moves! Dual Rancho
5000’s shocks are on all corners and dual Rancho steering stabilizers also.
The tires are 44inch Swampers on 16.5x10 American Racing rims. I
have a REP8000 Ramsey up front. The interior has been redone.
The steering column is a 85’ tilt unit with a Grant steering wheel.
Theres full Sun meter gauges. The tach is on top the dash and
water, oil, and volts below. I have a new bench seat and the floorboard
is newly covered with fully padded rubber for easy washing. The stereo
consists of a Pioneer cd deck with a pioneer 200watt amp. That pushes
2 pioneer surface mounts in front and 2 100watt amplified tubes behind
the seat. The entire system only take a minute to remove and usually
sits in the house because I can only hear it at stop lights any way.
The tool box is full of extra parts and recovery gear. I have extra
ignition caps rotors control module spark plugs wires manual hubs u-joints
pull straps chains (2)Hi-lift jacks and all the tools I may need.
I love my truck and it drives great. Soon I will be adding 44inch
Boggers on 16.5x14 white Bart rims.
At a recent car chow and cruise I discovered
that my truck can pull the front tires off the ground when I dump
the clutch in first gear. And that’s in 2 HI!! The tires came
over a foot off the ground. I did this over thirty times for the
crowds during the cruise. But of course the following weekend while
attempting to show off for my best friend I found the limitations of my
traction bars. I’ll just build it stronger next time! That’s
what I built my truck for is having fun and breaking things pushing the
limits is always fun!!
WOW!! --FourWD
