Don't Forget To Wear Black On Monday!

It's St. Valentine's Day...Why Wear Black?

As if you need a reason...but for the skeptics, here are a few:
Valentine's Day commemorates the martyrdom of a saint.
Thus, the name. There are several legends of St.
Valentine, most likely because Valentinius was a
relatively common name for early Christian martyrs
in Rome. The one whom the holiday is most likely
named Valentinus. He was imprisoned pending his
execution, when the guard discovered that he had
been healing the sick. He brought his blind daughter
to the doomed saint and begged him to restore her sight.
Just before Valentinus was executed, he sent a letter
to the guard's daughter. When she opened it, her
vision was miraculously restored. He had signed the
letter, "Your Valentine," and thus is the patron saint
of Hallmark, and the wearers of glasses and contact lenses.

Still skeptical?
Wearing black is symbolic of the
girl's transition from the black
world of blindness to the world of vision.
Also, since black is the traditional
color of funerals, it is appropriate
since this is, after all,
the anniversery of someone's death.

Speaking of death, we also have the 1928 Saint Valentine's Day Massacre of Chicago to deal with.
And lastly, but most importantly, Valentine's Day is depressing. And everyone knows this for a fact. Isn't it irritating, all the people who go around being all perky and freaky about the holiday? Sick, if you ask me. And an excuse for the greeting card and candy industries to take in more money. If you are not in a relationship but want to be, it's a lousy holiday because you feel left out. If you're not in a relationship and you don't want to be, it is annoying because everyone seems to feel sorry for you. If you are in a relationship, you very well may be miserable, and one day out of three hundred sixty-five and one fourth cannot be used to make up for all the other ones. And if you are in a relationship and you are happy, why would you need a special holiday to make everyone else feel really lousy because they feel left out?

Therefore, join the protest by wearing all black on Valentine's Day. You'll be glad you did.
