Fantasy Battles
The
Darkmist Vale Campaign
The Discovery of Darkmist Island caused a stir among
all the major races of the world. All have sent expeditions to the island
to explore and chart the newest territorial find. Recently a small band
of adventurers discovered a lush large valley in the southern area of the
island. News spread quickly and now troops from every race are moving quickly
in order to claim the resource laden area for themselves...
The
Darkmist War Campaign
As the victorious undead forces hold the vale, armies
march from the lush valley to conquer the rest of the island. In
this matrix style game, we explored the options a open sort of game has.
It was interesting letting the players open up, and seeing some of the
things they came up with. (Undead Whale and Shark fleets, a Chaos Dwarf
ICBM, etc.) We played with a map and army tokens, rotating from
the map to the battlefield to resolve battles. We had one action
per turn that was given a difficulty depending on its amount of work and
possibility. It was run by Bryan, the store manager.
Lord
of the Crag Tourney
A short brutal 4 week campaign that left the last
man standing. This tournament was a points based game. You
earned the points of what you killed, and the highest points at the end
of the game won. Simple, and fun. It was run by Bryan, and I won!
I have attached my army list from the campaign for any who are interested
in my winning undead force. This style of tournament is nice because
it is quick, fast, and can run almost with out a person overseeing it (as
a matter of fact, Bryan joined in!), but in my opinion isn't as fun as
a scenario or scripted campaign.
Legacy
of Redmane
A campaign that I ran, centered on the Dwarven stronghold
of Karak Varn. It was a search for the magical artifact once wielded
by none other that Runesmith Redmane, one of the greatest dwarven forgers
ever to live. It was rumored that the hammer had the ability to forge
beautiful magical weapons, even in the most untrained hands. It had
small, 1000 point mercenary forces (without magic items) taking contracts
for various parties (some who turned on them later!), and playing against
each other and other NPC forces.
Check out this great fanzine I found at http://www.altdorf.com
Its chock full of great material! I'll try to keep updated as new
issues come out.
